Preliminary Tree Assessments are undertaken at the beginning of a project to identify opportunities and constraints, and guide design. In some Local Government Areas they may also refereed to as Pre-development Tree Assessments. These assessments include a site survey and identification of all trees within the project area with consideration of the suitability of each tree for retention.
The Preliminary Tree Assessment Report provides information on tree characteristics, protection zones (TPZs and SRZs) and retention values of individual trees. Information provided in this report can be used by the project planners and architects to design the project with consideration of the tree constraints present on the site.
We recommend that the Preliminary Tree Assessment is undertaken in coordination with the initial site survey by the Project Surveyor to allow all trees to be tagged prior to survey works. This ensures that all trees are accurately represented and identified on the site plans.
